Jean Prouvé, last call to see the exhibition (in Japan…)
With the exhibition Jean Prouvé The Poetics of the Technical Object, the Vitra Design Museum shows the most comprehensive retrospective to date devoted to the work of French design engineer and industrialist Jean Prouvé (1901-1984).
In recent years, given the growing interest in technological issues the work of Jean Prouvé has increasingly come to the attention of a broad section of the public and the appreciation of his oeuvre has likewise soared. Indeed, his inventions in the field of buildings and building sections and in particular in the field of curtain walls, not to mention his emphatically functional furniture, have had a great influence on 20th-century architecture and design.
The heart of the exhibition are more than 45 furniture exhibits, 11 architectural models, 5 original architectural elements, 8 original drawings. Rounded out by films and computer animations for individual projects, it will present a comprehensive introduction to Prouvé’s technical approach and an impressive overview of his oeuvre in its entirety.
