George LAPCHINE: Russian painter, born in Moscow (1885-1951). Figures, landscapes, postimpressionnist. George Lapchine studied painting with Fernand Cormon and Leon Lhermitte, he often exhibited his works at the "Salon des artistes Français". Despite his classical style, Lapchine's manner is clear and under the influence of impressionism. He liked to paint the variations of the light through the seasons, the effects of evenings or mornings. His snow-covered landscapes are much sought after.
